Blood collection tubes
Vacuum Blood Collection System
The vacuum blood collection system, or vacutainer, is a single-use device for fast and safe venous blood collection. The device contains additives and reagents for analysis in strict accordance with the required dosage. It is made from durable plastic that prevents gas exchange.

STRUCTURE OF VACUUM TUBES
The set includes a tube, a sterile needle, and a holder. The tube is used for collecting, transporting, and storing biological material. Inside, there is a vacuum and different reagents for obtaining the necessary material (whole blood, plasma, serum).
The cap consists of a stopper and a plastic body, which prevents air from entering. It is labeled to indicate its purpose. The color of the vacuum tube caps indicates the type of additive inside.
TYPES OF VACUUM TUBES
The colors of the caps indicate the composition of the reagents inside and the type of test for which the tube is intended.
Tube Colors & Description:
- Red: The tube contains a blood clot activator. The biological material is blood serum. The activator shortens clotting time without affecting the test results.
- Yellow: Tubes with a yellow cap contain a clot activator and a separation gel at the bottom. After centrifugation, a barrier forms, separating the serum from the blood cells. As a result, more serum is obtained compared to using regular containers.
- Green: These tubes are intended for plasma analysis.
- Gray: Tubes are used for determining glucose levels in plasma. Samples are preserved for a long time due to the anticoagulant and glucose stabilizer, ensuring that the original state of the biological material is maintained.
- Blue: This type of tube is intended for coagulation analysis. It contains a sodium citrate solution.
- Purple: These tubes are used for hematological studies. EDTA prevents clotting and binds calcium ions, preserving the concentration of cellular and extracellular blood components.
- Pink: These tubes are designed for blood typing and crossmatching for transfusions. They are available with or without additives.
- Black: The tubes contain a buffered sodium citrate solution and are intended for studying erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR).
